Governor Obaseki names Edo Arena after Rema

Global Afro beats star Rema is being honored by the Edo state government by having the 6000 capacity Edo arena being named after him.

The governor made this know during the pioneering ceremony of the project in Benin City on Wednesday.

Rema who was back for his homecoming event  in Benin city joined Governor Obaseki to lay the block for the massive project.

The highly anticipated performance is set to take place at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on August 30.

In a social media post on X the governor expressed his joy about the new project with the global star and was excited about the wide range of events from concerts to national conferences, symposiums and other large gatherings that the “Rema dome” would host.

He also stated that the arena will attract more visitors to the state, “allowing them to experience our rich culture and what we have to offer, which will create employment opportunities for our youths.”

The X post stated “It was a pleasure to have our global music icon @heisrema, join me in performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the 6,000-capacity Edo Arena. The arena, which will be called ‘Rema’s Dome,’ is located at the former Garrick Memorial School Ground on Ekenhuan Road in Benin City.”

Rema, born Divine Ikubor, is from Benin City and has been a proud ambassador of Edo State, promoting the state and legacy of the ancient Benin empire in his music and concerts.

Rema a trailblazer came into limelight through Mavin records with his hit song “Dumebi” and ever since then it has been hit after hit with him getting recognized by international acts and getting to perform on international stages.

His latest chart topper ‘Benin Boys’ which featured fellow Edo-born star, Shallipopi, is a tribute to the city of Benin.
