In a press statement made by he National Association of Nigerian Students, factional president Umar Faruk Lawal, at Abuja, on Thursday 8th of September, NANS, called on the Federal Government to settle, in between working days, the persistent Academic Staff Union of Universities strike.

According to his statement, he said that the effect of the industrial action by ASUU has stressed Nigerian students beyond imagination.

Lawal mentioned that (ASUU) has been on strike for month, and that the academic calendar cannot remain the same again, as students keep suffering from the long-term effect of the strike. The Nigerian students’ patience has been stretched beyond its elastic limit and they have resolved to liberate themselves from the recurring effect of the industrial action by ASUU”.

The union, henceforth, demands that Federal Government resolves the trade dispute with ASUU within a few days, or it would mobilize students to occupy the Ministry of Education.

“Federal Government through Ministry of Education should within few working days resolve the wavering ASUU strike. As we shall put to arm our students towards occupying the Ministry of Education until our request are granted.

Also NANS told the federal government to set apparition panels to address issues of all politically expelled and suspended students, as well as increase commercial allotment to education.
