Naira Scarcity: I’m Suffering, My Family Can’t Cook – Orji Kalu

The Former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu has broken silence on the impact of the scarcity of the new Naira notes on his household.

Kalu disclosed this in an interview on Channels Television’s election programme, The 2023 Verdict, Orji claimed that recently, his family could not get enough money to cook.

“You can see the policy is right but I don’t keep money in my house. I am suffering,” he said.

“The other day, my house manager told my wife in Abuja that we have no money to cook food. My wife was virtually roaming around and we feed over 250 people every day. It is a problem to me and to everybody.”

 

In another news, The president of federal republic of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari has extended the validity of the N200 notes .This vital piece of information was disclosed by the president  while Speaking in a nationwide broadcast on Thursday morning, February 16, the president directed that the old N200 notes be reintroduced into circulation to run with the new N200, N500 and N1000 naira notes for 60 days beginning from February 10, 2023 to April 10, 2023.

Buhari however, said the old 500 and 1000 naira notes have ceased to be legal tender.

“I have given approval to the CBN that the old N200 bank notes be released back into circulation and that it should also be allowed to circulate as legal tender with the new N200, N500, and N1000 banknotes for 60 days from Feb. 10, 2023 to April 10 2023,” Buhari said.
